Devid Ciampalini (1988) is a impro musician / composer and founder of the Ambient Noise Session collective. He carries out research related to the improvisation and composition of electronic music, using synthesizers, field recordings and magnetic tapes. His work lies on the border between collage and concrete music in a metaphysic way. Specifically, his technique consists in recording, in multitrack on magnetic tape, synthesizer improvisations and field recordings, then cutting the reel into small portions, mixing them together and rejoining them in a random way, obtaining a stereo sound collage. Once ready, this reel is used as a random sequence to be modified on the spot and with which to interact. From 2011 to 2022 he played electric bass and synthesizers in various ensembles, including Metzengerstein, Luce Celestiale, Alga Alma, Holy Hole, Flocculi, Hare, SuperVixens, New Jooklo Age, Oracle Column, etc. releasing records and playing live in Europe. In recent years is co-curator of MUTO, program of experimental music in Livorno and Toscana Isolazionista. His current work focuses on composition, developing several scores for voice and pipe organ and exploration on techniques of sound reproduction and field recording. He has been invited by various entities, both independent and institutional to further explore these aspects. In the meantime, he continues his solo live performances, album recordings, and the curatorship of various art spaces and site-specific festivals. He now collaborates with various projects, ranging from experimental theatre and the personal studies, conducting class for students on sound research.
